What Is Leech Woods?
Leech Woods is one of the scariest haunted trail experiences in all of Maryland, built deep in the forests of Damascus on land originally settled by the Leech family in the late 1700s. According to historical land records, Warwick and Jeanne Leech immigrated from Hungary and established a successful hunting and fur supply store along a wooded path leading to their homestead. During the brutal winter of 1804, the family was murdered under mysterious circumstances, and no explanation was ever discovered. Today, remnants of the original homestead still stand in the woods, and the Leech Woods immersive experience follows that same historic path, transforming it into a thirty-minute walk through over fifteen highly detailed, immersive scenes enhanced each year and staffed by more than sixty professionally trained scarers. For those brave enough to go further, the Horror Hayride offers a twenty-minute ride and walk-through experience featuring highly immersive scenes and the discovery of what is believed to be the Leech family cemetery. After the fear fades, guests can unwind with food and drinks, alcoholic beverages, bonfires, glow-in-the-dark axe throwing, fire dancers, a live DJ, fortune telling, and nightly entertainment.
